“A genuine artist, with a thoughtfully conceived and poetic interpretation.” (Boston Globe)
Described by the Boston Globe as “born to play the piano,” Minsoo Sohn brings his acclaimed artistry to Tyler for the first ETSO performance of a repertoire favorite: Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto.
The concert also features the ETSO premieres of overtures by two often-overlooked 19th-century composers: Louise Farrenc and Fanny Mendelssohn. The French-born Farrenc was an accomplished pianist and educator. Author of numerous orchestra, chamber and piano works, her Overture No. 1 will be performed by ETSO. Often overshadowed by her brother, Felix, Fanny Mendelssohn, too, was an accomplished pianist and composer. The orchestra will bring her Overture in C to the Cowan Center stage for the first time. The concert concludes with Felix Mendelssohn’s well-known “Reformation” Symphony.
